my kind of flex day

So, this year at work we had the choice of working extra hours during the day and then in return getting a few Friday's off throughout the summer. I've enjoyed a few Friday's off so far. And today was no different - as far as having a Friday off and enjoying it goes. For a while things weren't looking promising for the day that we were attempting to plan. Weather was looking to be threatening and there were talks of thunder storms for the day. Our backup plan was to find a mall and get a head start on Christmas shopping. Well, the weather seemed to hold up and all systems were 'go', including myself!

Our initial plan (Before I go much further, I should explain that I'm using the term 'plan' very loosely here ... it was a 'flex day' in all manners.) was to head to Grand Bend, which we did. We peeked in a few shops along the main street that headed towards the beach and then took a walk along the beach. Nothing to complain about there.

It was a nice surprise to find 'Jimmy' in the midst of it all, and to no surprise it was 'lunch time' when he showed up! In true Jimmy style I'd say.

We finished lunch and I was happy as clam. No, I didn't get bit by a clam as we walked along the beach. But it was sure good to enjoy the great weather and to just soak in some of God's handiwork. Takin' a drive to a beach is not something that I'm used to doing. I think I might be able to get used to it though! It was nice to be able to use my left hand a little than I've been able to in the past while I was taking pics today. The left hand sure comes in handy when you need to zoom / focus. Tends to make a huge difference in the final 'shot'.

The day was still in full swing and the weather was perfect, so we took a wee drive north and stopped in Goderich. We had a pretty good find there too! A lovely walk along the boardwalk that follows the shore-line of the lake is certainly nothing to complain about.

And really, what's a day outing for me without some shots of flowers. Even if they are of the pink variety I'll do my best to make 'em look 'good'.

Since the day was going so well, and we just so happened to be driving through Stratford on our way home - we decided to take a chance and stop in Stratford to see what we could see (and not break). We had a bite to eat - that was a pretty safe move - and then decided to go for a walk and visit the swans. We even managed to come across a set of swans that were either being 'nice' to each other or 'not-so-nice' to each other. I almost managed to catch a 'heart' moment on 'film' but a lady decided to come by and have a nice conversation - I think that sort of broke up the moment (again, whatever it was, that they were in the middle of). You may or may not find this interesting, but as we were walking along the path - there was a family walking towards us, I somehow thought that the lady/wife/mother looked awfully familiar. It immediately struck me that it was the Dr that had the privilege of 'attending' to me on June 1st when I broke my wrist. Now, just how crazy is that! I was glad that I was able to keep walking past her ...

At the end of the day we found ourselves meeting up with 'the boys'. I think their quiet day turned into a boring one for them. We made a typical summer-evening stop at the local Dairy Queen and finished the day with a good chat with friends.

Yup, if that's what a 'flex day' is about - I'd do it again. There's nothin' like being flexible now and then ... good for the soul.
