The first stop was the ‘Hamper Distribution Centre’ … which happens to be a
greenhouse in the Botanical Gardens. I’ll be heading back there next week some
time to do a little more hands-on from what I understand. After that we went to
the café at the Hospital … And … you guessed it, lunch was followed up by some
pastoral visits. My first of this kind … and wouldn’t ya know it … the very
first room was in critical care and required a smock and gloves! Yup, nothing
like jumping in with both feet for this gal who doesn’t ‘do’ hospitals so well.
The neat thing was … I loved the visit … it was so lovely to visit this ‘saint’
… She lit up when she realized I was a ‘cadet’ … and then I shared her favorite
Psalm with her … from HER bible … Psalm 91. “The Lord is my refuge” and how
wonderful to hear this lady’s testimony through scripture. Her faith is strong,
there is no doubt about it … I’m still workin’ on mine … and am thankful for
the many examples that have crossed my path to encourage me to do just that!
After finishing a few visits at the hospital we ran a few
errands, one of which included a quick visit to DHQ … again I’ll be spending
some time there next week so I’ll share more on that then!
By 4pm we headed back to the corps to help with final setup
for the Community Christmas Dinner. We served Turkey/Ham dinner to over 160
people. It was a blessing to serve them. It never ceases to amaze me how
thankful some people can be … again, I’m still workin’ on this too!
That’s about it for my 2nd full day on the island
… blessed & thankful, to say the least!
